Short Description
Incorporated in 1905, Norwood is a cozy little town nestled atop Wright’s Mesa in San Miguel County. With an elevation of 7000 feet, Norwood has spectacular views of the La Sal Mountains in the west, the Uncompahgre Plateau to the north, the San Juan and San Miguel Mountains in the east and, to the south, Norwood’s signature landmark, the Lone Cone. Norwood has an abundance of outdoor activities. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter. Hunting in the fall is a separate economy. Horseback riding is abundant and there are numerous opportunities for fly-fishing on the San Miguel or ice fishing on nearby Miramonte Reservoir. Equestrian and agricultural heritages are deeply interwoven in the lives of Norwood residents. Cattle drives are common, and Norwood hosts a wonderful rodeo every year. The Town of Norwood takes great pride in our local businesses that offer great food and entertainment, supplies, gas, liquor, outdoor activities, beauty salons, and more, so when visiting Norwood we hope you stop in and see all they have to offer.
Town Hall is also the office of the Norwood Water Commission and Norwood Sanitation district which are the water and sewer utility company for the Town of Norwood and surrounding community on the Wright’s Mesa. They currently serve around 800 water customers and 400 sewer customers.
